Singapore!!!

24 07 2008

Finally I’m back in Singapore. The flight got delayed but that’s ok. As long as I’m back in Singapore safe and sound. It’s really hot, although the pilot said it’s 26 degrees. I guess I’m just not used to it. What really hit me when I got off the plane was the humidity. I can almost smell it in the air. And the first few breaths was pretty hard to take in. Looking forward to training and meeting up with mates.

bah…

21 07 2008

It’s really frustrating… I get it, and then I don’t get it again… Somehow I just can’t reproduce the positions. And then that caused me to fall into the “why am I still throwing?” thing again that I’ve gone through so many times when I just chuck that spear…

yet another good throwing session..

9 07 2008

Yes! It was yet another good one today at Coker Park. My technique is getting there. The times I got the set up right is increasing. Matt says my foot work is getting heaps better. And yet again the third and second last throws of the session were the best where I got everything in place and good, strong turn in. Technique is everything to me. It really works. Good technique saves my elbow. Though the last throw, a crappy one kinda strained it a little. But nonetheless, it’s a good session. I can’t wait to watch the videos taken on Monday and today at Matt’s.

I think I kinda strained my hammies again though, which I think is due to fatigue from yesterday’s deep squat (I didn’t feel any fatigueness though). It was during my sprints. Yes.. Again… I haven’t hurt my hammies for quite some time and when I least expected it, something happened. Not good.. Thank God I managed to stop in time before anything major happened. Time to do some work on my hammies.

It’s another three and half weeks to the opening of my season in Singapore. I hope I’d be alright. I’m doing quite a bit in terms of recovery. Something that I’ve never really put any focus on despite knowing that it is also a very important part of training. I’m icing my elbow now after every training. It’s good. Kills the sore whenever there is one and keeps it healthy when the sore is not there.

Steve Backley said this on his website: “Winners are made not born.” I think it is very true. It’s the attitude that a person has and how much he really want to achieve something. Of course. The end does not, and will not justify the means. It has to be done with heaps of honest efforts. No short cuts! This applies to anything in life.

I can be a winner. You can be a winner too. Keep working at it! It can’t be anymore true than this. I have been through it. All the hard work (training smart) I’ve put in the past 2 years in javelin has put me at the level that I am in now.

position… it’s all about position

8 07 2008

Today’s training was a good one. I didn’t go hard on my throws but just focused on trying to get into the right positioning. I’m getting it. I got the feeling already. It’s good. I’ve did them on the last two throws and my body will remember it.

Matt was right. My last two throws went furthest today even though there wasn’t any effort put in. I was in the right position. Now I need to learn how to release the javelin earlier. I need to learn how to hit it hard from this position. Matt says that a good long throw doesn’t feel fast at all. But it is fast. It should also feel like it’s 80%.

crappy throws…

2 07 2008

Today I threw crappy distances. But Matt says I’m getting the positions already. My set up is getting better. Just the timing. Yes… it’s timing again. And the shoulder drive isn’t fast enough.

I kinda strained my throwing elbow again. Hope nothing major like the last time. If so, I really have to retire, and I don’t want to retire so young. Matt told me to go easy for the next 2 weeks or so and just focus on getting the set up good.

getting there…

1 07 2008

Had a pretty good throwing session today. Went over to Matt’s to watch some videos before we started training. It’s gonna be like that for the next few Mondays so that we can have the proper image in our head before we start with technique sessions.

Matt says I’m getting there. I just need to get the timing right. That is the hard part. Though Matt said that it’s not that hard… I’m gonna do lots of drills to get the set up right. And I have to tell myself to hold back until I’m all set up and catch the javelin long and hit it hard. Then, I’ll see some long throws. I’m excited about it. Need more effort though.

I realised with all these new things that’s coming in, I forget the basics. I’ve kinda lost touch with them. I need to get them back. Those basics that are so important. The fundamental principles of training. Of getting fit for the next stage of the preparation that will lead to the big event.

stupidity

16 06 2008

I did the stupidest thing today. I came out from the track after training lugging my stuffs, open the boot of my car, put the keys on the tray, put my javelin in, put my bags in, dried my javelin and closed the boot door. I have therefore successfully locked myself out of my car. How stupid can I get?? grrr.. Thanks to my friends, I managed to break into my car without destroying anything. Thank God. But it was real cold. It was raining and I was in shorts and singlet… Stupidity again. heh…

medial knee

12 06 2008

My knee hurts.. I don’t know why. It happened after my anatomy paper on Tuesday. It’s on the medial side and there are lotsa clicks within the knee when I flex and extend. I hope it’s not a ligament problem. Heh…

My hardest papers are finished. I hope I’ll do well enough to pass. I’m kinda in a holiday mood now with 2 more papers to sit for. 1 written and 1 prac.

And I finally went back to gym this morning. It felt good. I hope I can wake up for gym for the weeks to come. I need to prepare for Singapore Open..
